Pre-production continues and contest update

Hi Runners,  

Just a quick update for this month. Things continue to move along well with the production of Outrun the Bear.  Right now the game is still primarily in Gameland's qualified hands, and their current timeline is:  

• They hope to be sending pictures of the printed preproduction components by the end of January 
• have the preproduction copies delivered by February 15th 
• if everything is up to snuff, on the boat by mid March.  

There could still be some delays... we already had one COVID shutdown, which thankfully it didn't slow down the timeline. Rest assured if anything comes up, you'll know right away. I'm really looking forward to sharing the pictures they send me with you all in the update that will follow this one.  

CONTEST  

Last month I mentioned we're giving away a signed prototype copy of the game just post a picture of your Print-n-play version of Outrun the Bear on Instagram and tag #Outrunthebeargame to enter... but I got some feedback that this contest was a higher barrier to entry than I had previously anticipated so I'm revising the rules.  

Here’s the new rules:  

• Craft your print and play version of Outrun the Bear 
• Take some photos of your print - n- play version and email them to [email protected] by February 11th.
• A winner will be randomly selected from the entrees

Note these pictures will be shared in the next monthly update scheduled for February 18th.

A PROJECT TO LOOKOUT FOR  

It's no secret that Outrun the Bear couldn't have become what it is if it had only been me behind the whole process. A couple designers who helped me along the way were Travis and Andrew from Xplody games. They also have a game coming to Kickstarter January 31st they've been working on Alynthia for over six years and their love for the game really shows. If you'd like to check it out, here it is.

Outrun the Bear's preproduction and a contest announcement

Hi Runners,

It’s been a little over six weeks since Outrun the Bear’s Kickstarter came to a close, and we’ve been running along at a breakneck pace.

Now that we have all the funds in place my goal is to get Outrun the Bear out to you as soon as I am able. Here’s the timeline we had set out before the Kickstarter– as you can see we’re already a little ahead of schedule!

This is a super exciting start to Around the Stump’s first printing and is largely thanks to your excitement driving me forward. So where is Outrun the Bear at right now?

Preproduction

Right now, the game is in Gameland’s skilled hands and they are taking all the steps necessary to ensure that every aspect of the physical printing comes out just right.

For example, just this morning, the project manager at Gameland contacted me about some minor changes to the size of the Bear Token so that it fits properly in the box insert.There are a lot of little details like this one that are important to get right in-order to have a high quality game, so it’s a good thing that they’re taking the time needed to catch these small details.

Once they’re satisfied with how everything has come together, they’ll be air shipping a couple of sample copies, and I’ll be reviewing and approving them (in success). You can be sure that there will be an unboxing video as soon as that arrives!

Contest to win a signed prototype

While much has been accomplished already, we still have a ways to go before Outrun the Bear bursts into your home.

But that doesn’t mean we have to wait to have some fun! You might have noticed the Print and Play files were delivered November 24th, which means Kickstarter backers should have access to the game. I hope you’ve been able to enjoy playing your own home-crafted version of the game.

I’d love to see what you’ve been able to put together, so I’m proposing a contest to win the final remaining signed prototype!

Here’s the rules:

• Take some photos of your play group enjoying the game
  
• Share them on Instagram, making sure to tag @outrunthebeargame

What a great 30 days! Thank you all for showing your support and excitement for Outrun the Bear as well as your trust in me as a designer and publisher. 

The Road Ahead

Because of you, we're making this game! We have everything we need ready to go. Over the next couple of weeks we'll be 

• making deposits to Gameland and Gamesquest to get the bear moving in your direction. 
• Getting the print and play files into one tight little package to send out by early December, so you crafty runners will be throwing your families to the bear before the end of the year! 
• We'll also be getting the pledge manager open so you can provide us with the information we need to get you your copy of Outrun the Bear.

Card Back

Before the campaign we started running a couple polls for which card back would be the best for the game. I promised I would reveal it here... here you go:

500 hundred backers and one final sprint!

Hi runners,

Thanks to all of your awesome support a great game is coming to life! We hit 500 backers today on our last day of Kickstarter which is absolutely fantastic, to celebrate the game is getting an extra REACTION card in the runner deck.

I also want to let you know we’re working on some of the early production steps with Gameland already. Check out the 4mm acrylic standees below being used to tool the fine details.

One of the goals for Outrun the Bear has been to deliver a game that feels as awesome physically as it plays. To try TO make that happen for every backer we’re going for one last epic sprint to the finish! The next two stretch goals give the base game a more deluxe feeling at 25k the base game gets a plastic insert and at 30k the base game gets 2mm acrylic standees.

As one final push to the end we’re lowering these stretch goals to 24k and 28k which means we only need another 125 base game backers for everyone to get some of that awesome acrylic!

Now I know 125 backers might sound like a lot but we did it on day 1 with only 400 people following the campaign and now there are 750 of you out there following this campaign who are currently on the fence… so if this is what you’ve been waiting for, let’s make it happen together 😀
